Swedish Multiple Sclerosis Center

What's the Need?
Seattle's Pike Place Market

More than 400,000 Americans have MS and 12,000 of them live in the Pacific Northwest.

No one knows why, but more people in this area are diagnosed with MS than in any other part of the country.

Because there's currently no comprehensive MS treatment center in the Pacific Northwest, many patients have a difficult time finding care for all their needs.

But that's all changing. Swedish Multiple Sclerosis Center - Patient with Therapist

Since Dr. Jim Bowen joined the Swedish MS Center as medical director in 2008, the MS Center has expanded medical services and research studies, and added psychological, social work, and rehabilitation services. The Center now has more than 6,500 patient visits a year.

Developing a national benchmark of care for MS.

The Swedish MS Center will continue to grow to meet the needs of people with MS, recruiting even more MS specialists and providers, and bringing all the services together under one roof to develop a true national benchmark of care for MS.

The Center has a tremendous opportunity to improve access to care, to pioneer new methods for health care delivery, and to help patients with MS lead fuller lives.

Dr James Bowen, MD

"At an ideal MS Center only 10 percent of a patient's care should be about the neurologist and medication. Most of the care should focus on how each person lives the best possible life with MS."

Dr. Jim Bowen, Medical Director
