Hughes Tower

With opening day less than a year away, Providence Swedish is preparing to usher in a new chapter of advanced, patient-centered care at Hughes Tower. Explore how this facility will help us meet the needs of a growing region and how support from our community helped bring this vision into reality, transforming care for generations to come.

For older adults with health and mobility complications, getting to a clinic for a health check can be daunting. That’s where home-based care comes in. Supported by philanthropy, this unique program brings clinicians to the homes of older adults with complex health factors, enabling Providence Swedish to see and care for every individual in need.

For nearly four decades, Dr. Nancy Auer helped shape Providence Swedish through her leadership, dedication to patients and caregivers, and deep commitment to the community. Dr. Auer passed away in September 2026, leaving a lasting impact on the institution she devoted so much of her life to serving. We remember this pioneering physician, whose legacy lives on in her philanthropy and service.

For Pat Hughes, the decision to support what is now known as Hughes Tower did not represent a departure from decades of giving, but a continuation. It reflects the same belief that has guided his life and philanthropy: strong communities are built by investing in people and in the environments that allow them to do their best work.

Tom and MJ Lundsgaard met in sixth grade and had their first date at 14. For the next 57 years, they lived their lives side by side. Together, they chose to leave an estate gift to Providence Swedish in honor of the exceptional transplant care they received. Their generosity ensures that others will have access to that same exceptional care beyond their lifetimes.

As the largest not-for-profit health care organization in Seattle, Providence Swedish is grateful for the vital community support we receive in pursuit of our mission to improve the health and well-being of every person we serve. Many patients and families choose to give back by organizing their own community fundraising event, allowing them to tap into their special talents or interests to raise vital funds in support of Providence Swedish.

Angie Stubblefield spent a lifetime in service to others when a breast cancer diagnosis changed everything. That’s when she met her Providence Swedish Cancer Institute physicians, who treated her with such dignity, respect, and skill, she chose to give back, designating a charitable bequest in her will in honor of their care.

Each year, Swedish Foundation’s Toast! brings together donors, caregivers, leaders, and friends of Providence Swedish to celebrate the extraordinary impact of philanthropy — and the people whose generosity, leadership, and commitment make that impact possible.
